There are two epublishers who routinely have books littered with errors, and Phaze is one of them.

Oh, dear. I would have thought the editing situation would improve with junior editors now on board. I'm only in a position to speak about my own experience.

I try very, very hard with my books, going through them months before the formal editing and highlighting things I missed before submitting. I didn't do this with Dead to the World, my first Phaze book, and have regretted ever since. But I can get away with doing a large chunk of cleaning up typos, etc., because I used to be an English teacher.

I know that Lutin's Heir is the third book in a series. My next release is labeled a sequel on the title page, so hopefully new readers will go back and read the first book in the series.

There are two epublishers who routinely have books littered with errors, and Phaze is one of them. In the past few months, since the December releases, the editing has got worse (I'm not talking about a few typos either - this particular book had a crazy amount of errors in it). You'd know better than me if this coincides with an editorial change.

With sequels I'd prefer it to be stated upfront, preferably on the cover, or if that's impossible then it really should say 'Book 2 of So-and-So series' on the title page inside. This particular book didn't have this information, so to start with I thought I was reading a single title and not part of a series.

Regarding a summary of previous books, IMO that would only be necessary if the previous books had complicated plots (your books probably would fall into this category as they're set in a very detailed world with its own set of social rules and hierarchies).

Obviously most sequels refer to the events of previous books somewhere early on in the text. I think this is still preferable to the 'Previously on Lost...' type summary, but it would be a judgement call for the author and editor as to what would work best.

But talking specifically about your books, I'd say that a summary of earlier events would be a good thing. Your world is very dense and rich, much more detailed than the norm, so for a new reader having that bit of extra information could be helpful.

How strange. Phaze has hired junior editors to help out with the editing process. I know the editing of my most recent book went through more emails than before, with two people looking at it.

Do you find that, with sequels, having a short summary page at the beginning to get readers up to date is helpful? I ask because I am currently working on the third book of a trilogy. Also, I know that several Phaze authors have series books.

Hi Singapore Sling,

You are not the first to mention they'd like to see this story be longer...hhmmmm..maybe it will evolve into a full-length novel sometime in the future. ;-)

I hope you do decide to read some of my longer works and are fully satisfied when you do. :-)

Thank You for the review.
